Our Commitment to Sustainable Design
Ward 5 is on a mission to bring sustainable interior design and healthy renovation into the mainstream. We design to minimize our collective impact on the environment by creating spaces with health and sustainability in mind. From design concept to project completion, we focus on material recycling, creative reuse, and thoughtful donation to design a space you not only love, but can feel good about in the process.
Creative Reuse
We believe that buying newly manufactured materials and furnishings is a destructive contributor to climate change. For this reason, we offer our clients high end sustainable alternatives through our network of exceptional trade professionals and local trades. The materials we use come from a wide array of high quality local sources who share our commitment to sustainability.
Deconstruction Not Demolition
During a renovation, Items such as antique brick and light fixtures are mixed in with garbage, placed in a single container, and taken to the dump.
Construction debris is one of the largest sources of waste in the United States generating nearly 600 million tons of non recyclable garbage.
We believe this is unacceptable!
Ward 5 plans for careful deconstruction of materials so we can divert waste away from landfills, and reuse existing materials back into the same house. Ward 5 begins our design process with a keen eye on what existing materials and furnishings can be repurposed or donated rather than taken to to dump.
